A Huge Welcome to Our Session Four Campers!
Session Four is a special time at Centauri Arts Camp. It’s only eight days, so we pack a whole lot in! All of us have to leave when the session is done, so we make the most of every minute… in program, workshop, camp activities and with our friends.
Community gets built quickly here. Last night, our evening program was ‘Meeting the campers in their Natural Habitat’. Each dorm had to decide on an identity they took on the rest of the year when they were not at camp. They build dens/homes for their group’s characters, developed greetings, dances, costumes and so on. B5 and G8 combined into a colony of sloths (!!). G1 became dragons. G5 created ‘Dolphoons’, with the combined characteristics of dolphins and raccoons (!!). G9 were ‘the spirits of the bathroom’ which was hilarious, and B4 created a huge den out of sheets and patio chairs, crawled inside, called it a Tim Hortons, put on traditional Canadian costumes (one was a mountie) and offered every visitor a double double! Crazy amounts of fun were had by all, concluding with hot chocolate and donuts in the dining hall. Last night, as you probably know, was a ‘supermoon’ – the largest and brightest of the year. All the dorms paused on the way back to bed, to make wish.
Today, programs are in full swing. “Performance Arts” is taking a stage combat workshop outside. Garage Band has split into their first three bands, and are working on rock music!. The photographers are off on a hike down in the forest, working on nature photography. The’Art of Being Wild’ group is also on a field trip on foot, having produced gorgeous flowers – learning pastel techniques – this morning. Our Tour campers are reading through their scripts, and the Dancers were working on a Spanish Flamenco number. Geoff’s theatre troupe is working on improv and theatre games. Tonight, we have a Superhero Spirit Supper, and many of our campers are rehearing in their free time for tomorrow night’s talent show!
