Hello Friends!
Session 2 is underway and we have never been more grateful for our mantra of “hat, water bottle, sunscreen.” Everyone at camp has found ways to beat the heat such as trips to the pool and utilizing the air conditioned spaces around camp. A couple of freezies have also helped!
Fortunately the heat has not stifled camp creativity in the least. There is already a buzz around Centauri about what the campers are learning in their arts specialist programs. I particularly enjoy talking to the kids in Stage Combat as their enthusiasm is contagious!
Our second day at camp was quite musical. A Beatles Sprit Supper reminded everyone about the eclectic characters that the band sung about, such as Eleanor Rigby and Sgt. Pepper. Afterwards, a concert put on by counselor band Summer Chemistry turned into an opportunity for dorms to collaborate and perform their own songs!
Today has also been a chance for campers to collaborate, in our Shakespeare Performance Festival! Campers were challenged to mount an arts project inspired by Shakespeare, but they only had today to prepare, rehearse and perform. Films, stage fights, plays, comedies and more emerged to remind all of us that we have superbly talented campers.
As I type this campers are enjoying a nice cool treat of chocolate milk after watching the Shakespeare performances. What a wonderful way to end a busy day: a glass of cold chocolate milk, a beautiful sunset, and quiet conversations with friends on dorm porches.
