What’s a DOOT, you ask?
It’s a dinner where each of us, in dorm groups, Do Our Own Thing.
Imagine the chaos of 16 different mini themed suppers all going on at once! One of our boys’ dorms held a baby shower during dinner. The G1s were pop stars, and their counsellors played agents, linked by a cup-and-string telephone. The G2s dressed up as the elderly grandparents of the staff… resembling, in many cases, older versions of our counsellors and program directors themselves! The B3s paid homage to Isaac’s moustache, and G10 came as dragons! G9 all dressed up as one of the campers (ie., 10 identical copies!) and another dorm came as an Oreo cookie, with some campers as the biscuit portion and the others as the cream! G3 came as Hogwarts students. We played music, danced and celebrated our individual creativity.
It’s dorm hour now. G1 is playing leapfrog in the quad, while G2 is covered completely in paint. B12 (our youngest guys) is creating a sock puppet play on the outdoor stage, while the LITs (leaders-in-training) are attached to younger dorms to help out and experience, first hand, the role of the counsellor. In just a few moments we’ll be moving into ‘pajamaramas’, a tradition we have at Centauri where we slow things down for an evening, and relax. Campers can choose from Chinese folk storytelling (another Centauri tradition!), Centauri Book Club, letter and envelope-making (hopefully resulting in mail to parents!) or Yoga. Tonight is early to bed and then tomorrow we kick into full gear again, with prep for our final presentations, as well as our cultural banquet night!
