Yesterday camp was buzzing with energy. We had our annual Play in a Day festival where campers were challenged to create and stage four original plays in twenty-four hours.

The festival officially began on the fourth of July when the writers were given their opening line and began writing the plays. The line which began all of our plays this session was “If I could have chosen”. Each play fell into a different genre. We had comedy, drama, environmental theatre and a musical. Yesterday morning campers attended workshops for directors, actors, musicians, production designers among others. In the afternoon the various groups came together and began their group rehearsals. Play in a Day is always an exciting day for camp. Instead of the loud, crazy energy that normally exists on site there is a focused, quiet energy that is equally as wonderful. Everyone involved is intent on creating a fantastic finished product. Our extremely exciting day ended with performances of all four plays plus performances by the Travelling Troupe, who led us from venue to venue. At the very end of the night the plays were all adjudicated by our guest judge, Darwin Lyons. Darwin was on staff with us last summer and is now working in the theatre industry in Toronto.

The festival would not be complete however without some hot chocolate and the unfurling of the official play in a day banner which now includes the names of the 2012 plays; “All That Class”, “Thank You For Flying Delta”, “Saving Mesora”, “No Title” and “Travelling Troupe…In Space”.
