The weather was glorious yesterday as our campers arrived. After a tour of Centauri Arts Camp all our families left, and we moved into our first dorm time together, giving everyone a chance to make friends and learn about the exciting plans we have in place for this session. Later in the afternoon, everyone had an introductory session with their program director, and this was followed by a celebration BBQ. Our evening program last night was an Impossible Scavenger Hunt, with dorm groups bonding over laughter and shared creativity as they attempted to find – or make – items on a scavenger hunt that do not actually exist – such as ‘moon cheese’ and ‘Shakespeare’s ghost’.
This session, we have more international campers than ever before, and with all the long weekend delays at the airport, our final shuttle of the day did not arrive at camp until 10.30pm. Luckily, the campers were in great spirits and had already begun to make friends. We had their counsellors ready to greet them, food and hot chocolate available in the dining hall, then they all headed off to bed.
Today is another beautiful day. After four hours in their specialty program, campers are beginning to settle in to camp, and get used to the routine. It’s Canada Day, so we have exciting plans afoot: a celebration supper with Canadian music and dancing, followed by Canada-themed games and challenges all evening long.
