The majority of our campers use the afternoon arts workshop time to expand their interest in the arts and try out new activities. In session three, 17 campers decided that instead of afternoon workshops they would join the LIT program. Our Leaders in Training take workshops that help them develop certain skill sets, in session one it was teaching skills, session two counseling skills, and now in session three they have been learning personal skills and activities leadership.

Over the session I worked with 17 campers on the skills they can develop to not only help run an event, but to work with others in a group setting as well. With such a large group in a workshop setting, the first goal was to get everyone feeling comfortable working together and confident sharing ideas. The second goal was to give them the information on how to successfully implement ideas in a large camp setting. The third goal was for them to run a spirit supper and evening program for the entire camp! After days of planning the LITs were more than excited to show off their spirit and enthusiasm to the camp.

These 17 teenagers can now say that they successfully planned and ran an event for over one hundred campers and staff. The LITs can apply the skills they have learned over the past two weeks to a variety of situations in school, in their community, and in extra curricular activities. They understand the work that goes into planning an event, and how to work with a variety of people to meet goals.
