Yesterday, we welcomed campers to camp from all across Canada and from countries far and near, including France, Mexico, Qatar, China, the USA and Antigua. It was a beautiful day – glorious sunshine, a light breeze and hot (but not scorching) temperatures. Campers spent an introductory period r in program, had a chance to get to know everyone in their dorms, and participated in a camp-wide BBQ. The first evening program of the summer was based on the Harry Potter world, and involved campers and counsellors seeking out and taming magical creatures. To do so, they had to demonstrate team spirit, and as the program directors were the magical creatures, the evening provided ample opportunity for everyone to get to know all the arts instructors on camp. The evening program was full of spirit, and as I took photographs (to be displayed soon on our photo page), every dorm was engaged in exciting conversations, and fully involved in the many challenges.
The evening ended with hot chocolate and cookies in the dining hall, and the final rounding up of the magical creatures, who proved themselves to be in no way dangerous at all!
Today is our first full day of camp and we’re celebrating Canada! Campers spent a complete morning in their arts programs, and as I write this, everyone is enjoying free time. The basketball court is full of campers, the first groups are heading to the pool, our first ‘talk and text time’ is underway and tuck is being delivered to the dorms! The weather is beautiful and we have a happy and harmonious camp.
Tomorrow I hope to make it through all the programs to take photographs – so check out our photo page over the next few days to see images of all our arts activities in action.
